Another really great spot to escape the heat in downtown saint Augustine. Barley is located in an old house, but renovated beautifully to accommodate its restaurant patrons. We chose to sit outside on the covered deck and really enjoyed the view and the music. Their beer list really caught my eye, I especially like how the beers are charted out on their menu--helps us who don't know much about beer pick the right one. Our waitress was also really knowledgable about the beer selection. My company chose the Gaelic ale (highland?) and it was so tasty, kind of similar to fat tire. I went with a Bloody Mary, as I heard there's were super good! I wasn't disappointed; it was a big drink. But maybe just a little too spicy for me to get through. We started off with the fried pickles, which I enjoyed but left a little to be desired. They ribbon cut their pickles, so they after being fried--the thin pickle was lost in the batter. I think maybe spears work best to keep the juiciness of the pickle. Chicken pesto sandwich was killer. Really enjoyed the cheddar jalapeño bread that it was served on! Also really enjoyed their version of cole slaw! Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Definitely give his place a shot! Small, but perfected menu! I have to come back to try the bangers & mash and some of the different beers :)

I walked in and a man sits talking of how his brand new Mercedes-Benz is not starting. And such. He might've been caught out in the rain but sure enough it seems they provided him a shirt to wear. What kind of a place does this act? A good one. This place is one of them. The food and atmosphere is a laid back ode to Ireland. While people will debate authenticity it's not what makes Irish food so good. It is the feel. And the cooking feels like someone wants you to have a good time. To sit down and enjoy your food. I had the lamb burger. Simple unadulterated. Not drowned in toppings. Cooked perfectly to my liking. What more could you want? Friendly wait staff that doesn't intrude and plenty of patrons willing to strike conversation. This place spills over with hospitality and that's a good thing. I highly recommend coming for the experience. And a side of good food.

Food, service, ambience! This place has it all! Food was fresh, tasty, and well prepared. Service was friendly, professional, and prompt. The ambience was lively but charming. Me and my wife very much enjoyed our dinner her and will definitely be back the next time we're in town!

Wow. The BLAT (Blt with avocado) was amazing. The bloody Mary's are so good. So far the best meal we've eaten in St Augustine. No wifi and the lot next door was not free but who cares when you have apple cider cured baconand bloody Mary's.

This is my go to place to park. They have a lot next door to their restaurant that is free to customers so we always park here when available. (There is also have a big parking lot across the street that available to everyone but I think it costs $10.) It doesn't hurt that we love the casual vibe and people that come here. On this latest trip we had the lobster roll and it was awesome. I will definitely order that again. I also enjoy their oyster selections. And their drinks aren't bad either.

The staff was great the food not soo much my lamb burger tasted like char and nothing else it was the worst lamb burger I've ever had in my life and for 14$ it was way over priced for the flavor skip this place and go somewhere else in St. Augustine to eat

The Parmesan truffle chips were amazing. I strongly encourage you to order them for the table. - big portion. Service was excellent and it had a very cozy atmosphere. The wings were good but the homemade ranch dill dip really made them stand out. Nice TVs for watching the game too! Worth a visit for sure.

Killer happy hour...$1 oysters, $1 cocktail shrimp, $1 bangers (deep fried sausage on a stick, served with sinus cleansing Dijon mustard.) Had their Bloody Mary ($8) and it was excellent. No pickled veggies, though. A float of Guiness and house made mix makes this drink a good one. Friendly staff, clean environment, chill vibe. Highly recommend this spot.

Just a great St Augustine restaurant Excellent happy hour. Very good food. Just one of those fun places with a great staff. It's a must visit. Good draft beer selection. Plus wine and drinks.

More authentic Irish dishes than the other Irish restaurants in the St Augustine area. We tried Barley Republic for the first time today and ate off the Sunday brunch menu (available till 3). I can't wait to go back and try the Irish egg or the truffle fries listed in the apps section. Two of us got the Lobster rolls.. definitely hit the spot and the terra cotta pot filled with their spiral cut fries was delicious as well as adorable!!! But I wish I would have gotten the Lobster Boat.. we all got to taste it and agreed it was the best meal on the table. Their beer selection is satisfying and I'll be back for the $2 Bloody Mary special for sure! Did I mention there's actually parking for the restaurant?! Always a major plus for this area.

By far one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. The burgers are great, the Reuben was out of this world amazingly I absolutely love the Barley Republic, and can't wait to go back!

Went here for late night drinks while vacationing in St. Augustine and had a blast! Great service from an awesome crew in a fun local joint! The burger specials on Tuesday looked awesome, although we didn't take advantage of them this time we plan to go back again before leaving for sure.

The Irish have saved me twice, including this time. First instance: last year, I had an awful hangover and thought I was going to vomit. A hearty Irish stew calmed by stomach and made me feel like new. Goodbye hangover! (Not sure if they have ever marketed it as a hangover cure, but they may want to!). The next instance was on this visit, when after hitting up two other restaurants (one of which was on 312 and the other, the Prince of Wales, in the touristy center of town), I was told they both close at 10. Barley Republic came to the rescue, welcoming my friend and I and letting us know they were open for dinner until around midnight! My friend ordered the bangers and mash (I don't know why he has this obsession for sausages but anyway), while I decided to go for the Irish meatloaf. He was surprised that I had never had meatloaf before, but I hadn't, so this was going to be a nice surprise. The meatloaf is made with black angus beef, diced corned beef (something else I have never tasted), Irish cheddar, Irish swiss, and a side of asparagus and thyme-infused potatoes. I honestly was not expecting anything fancy in its delivery, considering it was a pub, but it actually looked very fancy and it was delicious. There were two, thick slices of meatloaf. I dipped the asparagus and the meat in the gravy and it was very tasty, well-seasoned, and filling. It's a shame most of the Irish pubs in Miami just focus on the alcohol, while serving mediocre or below average food, something Barley does not do. The service was friendly and the people seemed jolly. There was a game with the Boston Bruins on TV and people were watching that and laughing. Atmosphere was very casual, no dress code, no pretentiousness, people of all ages, sizes, and colors just enjoying the game and laughing it up. I would not mind coming back here if I am in town. I would love to hear some of the ghost lore that another reviewer, G G. mentioned, but I assume that you'd need to sit at the bar in order to hear that.

Great place! Had the lamb burger! It was very tasty! Fries were hot and fresh. Great beers to choose from. Owner is a great guy.

The food was excellent. And love that they are open so late. Our server was a bit blah but I think she was just tired bc it was late. The Irish eggs were a party in my mouth.

Best Irish pub in town and around in my opinion. I was really surprised at how good the food was. Everything is made in house. Try the grilled Gorgonzola salad and the fried egg. Damn they're so good.

My favorite restaurant in St. Augustine! I just loooove this place. I work at a dessert restaurant just around the corner from here and when customers come in asking of a good place for dinner I always send them here. Burgers are delicious, fries are great, but I am obsessed with their pickles. Tuesday $5 burger night is what started my love for this place, but now I look forward to any meal any time here.

I would have included pictures, but I could not stop eating! Bangers and Mash was awesome! That gravy is the gravy that was served in the Holy Grail. True story.

Love this place!!! The Irish Egg is to die for. We get it every time. Who doesn't love a hard boiled egg wrapped in corn beef hash and deep fried? Yummy goodness. The fish and chips are scrumptious, perfectly crispy. And my sister got the BLAT, bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato on jalapeño bread and then pressed. Mmmmm mmmmm. Easy to get a seat too, no wait, which is a real plus in St. A. Oh, and they also had fresh Blue Points, a delightful treat!

  • Tris R.

Fabulous! We happened upon this pub on a stop in St. Augustine when our original destination wasn't open for dinner yet. We couldn't be more happy. Everything is made from scratch. I expected run of the mill food, but that was far from it. We started with the Bangers and Mash with a spicy mustard sauce. The fish and chips were perfectly battered and the homemade tartar sauce had red wine and shallots in it. The Sheperds Pie was perfect for a cool night with light fluffy potatoes and delicious lamb in a cast iron skillet. Dog friendly!! We had two big labs with us. They are all dog lovers so there will be no lack of attention. People friendly too! The guys working here were all so nice and proud of their food. I wish I lived closer by and could go back.

The food was absolutely amazing the buns on the burgers soft yet crispy the cheese thick and the fries that come in the plant pots absolutely addicting and the beer selection is great . to pull it all together , the make the pickles in-house .

So, it's months later and this place is still great!! The food is consistently delicious! The tuscan chips are to die for, the fish and chips is wow and the service is great. Be careful with the chairs though as they are light and fall backwards if you put your purse on it! Love love love this place!

Used to love this place. Service was awesome and food is amazing. Now, service sucks. If you want a drink at the (empty) bar, forget about it. They'll look right at you and ignore you completely. I'm in the service industry, so I really do understand being busy and not being able to get to people, but this was blatant ignoring. The bartender was busy making server drinks, which is part of their job and totally understandable, but after 10 minutes of waiting, I was done and had to track down a server to put in a drink for me. I also saw him turn another customer away after telling them that their server would be right there. So basically, you can't get a drink unless you're sitting at a table.

Stopped in with my husband for happy hour to grab some drinks and grub. The food itself was about a 3.5/4. We had some oysters, fish and chips, and a salad. The major problem with our visit: the service. Wow. It was brutal. First, it took forever to get our first round of drinks (and the pour on the beer was terrible). Long story short, our second round of drinks were not put in by the waitress as she "forgot" and my husband's food arrived ten minutes before mine because "something ripped on the tag that had our order." I could understand all of this if the place was rockin' - it wasn't. The other servers looked pretty competent, unfortunately, ours wasn't and it tainted the experience.

Cool little spot. Good was great. Good break from the usual tourist trap pizza spots on St. George. Highly recommend the lamb burger and the fried bangers. Food comes out at a reasonable time and the service staff was excellent. Will definitely return on our next trip to St. Augustine

Came here from a friend's recommendation. Brought my teenagers and they loved the food. Irish with a bit of fusion thrown in. It's good beer and excellent comfort food. The atmosphere was Florida casual and the service was excellent. I absolutely will go back.

Delicious! We wandered over here by accident! Wonderful find even with all the road construction in the area! Highly recommend! Small selection on menu, so maybe take a glance before coming! Small place as well... Had to move a few tables to accommodate 6 people! But easily was done!

For many years I went to St Augustine, I always stayed on St George Street. People, get off of St George Street and explore. We found this lovely Irish Pub with authentic cuisine right behind the Columbia House, and they have their own parking lot. Can you ask for any more? The food and service was outstanding. The Shepherds Pie and the Fish and Chips was delicious. Highly recommend this place for dinner or just drinks with friends.

The food is very good. I had a burger with swiss. Excellent! My husband had the B.E.A.T. Bacon egg avocado tomatoe sandwich on ciabetta bread. Also excellent. Great beer on tap and a good variety of bottles and canned beer. Excellent service by Kaylyn. She was friendly attentive and courteous. Knowledgeable about the beer selection. The restaurant is pleasantly noisy. Fun!

  • Ferbs J.

Beware this place. Rude, unfriendly SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW service. Seems like server was entertaining a boyfriend and had no time to answer any questions about menu. The one star I gave was for actually having Irish-tinged items on the menu. The wife and I both are of Irish heritage and have tried most of the so-called Irish pubs in our area. Most are disappointing, and Barley Republic even more so as the menu items were insanely overpriced, as if for fine dining, and the Sheperd's Pie was foul and gummy and had that unmistakable freezer tinge in play, not to mention it was swimming in grease and the price was approaching $20! There are no bargains here, and even if the food had been good, they charge Manhattan prices with a smirk. The snotty service and galling food at pick pocket prices make this dump a 'one and done', for tourists only.

Great little pub! Very authentic even the red bearded bartender had the fish and chips and was quite tasty. We also had the fried pickles delicious!

Great little find tucked away in downtown historic St. Augustine. Ice Plant (GORGEOUS!) stopped serving food so we were sent here for late night snacks! Well stocked bar and warm toasty dining area greeted us, it was one of the 3 cold nights we have here in Florida!!! Truffle Chips with Parmesan were devoured, marinated veggie plate was generous but one of us thought too pickley. Wings had great flavor but I wished they were a little crispier. The service was prompt and friendly :) I'd definitely go back!

After the Gentleman of the Road Stopover I was looking for a place to continue the revelry that wasn't so packed and that I could still get a small bite to eat. As I walked up to this place, they had live music out on the deck and it was busy but not slammed - perfect fit. I made my way up to the bar and asked the bartender for the pumpkin beer that was on draught (I forget what it was), she let me know it was out, but offered the Pumking by Southern Tier instead, which I love. She said it was a bottle instead of draught but that doesn't stop me, so I said "bring on the Pumpking". Although I do wish she had let me know that specific bottle was a large format with a price tag of $16. Its kinda like someone going to buy a car and asking for the Kia Sorrento, but their out of those. Then they suggest the Escalade as an alternative without telling you that its more than twice the price of what you originally asked for. Is it twice the car? Yes. Is Pumpking the Cadillac of pumpkin beers? Yes. Did I need the Cadillac of beers to finish off my evening of boozing after a concert at 1:00 in the morning? The answer is no... Following myself handing over a twenty for a beer and a free ice water, then walking away with one dollar left of that twenty post tip, I turned to find that a table opened up inside giving my feet a rest from walking miles throughout St Aug all day. One sip of that Pumpking while sitting in a chair for the first time since lunch and my previous financial regret was overturned. Damn you Southern Tier and whoever it was that invented chairs. Even though it was post concert rush, our server was a sweetheart and very attentive. We ordered a side of fries and the Beer Battered Bangers. Excellent choice for late night booze food. The bangers were pretty much a corn dog on a stick but, made with a brat and a nice beer batter. It came with mustard for dipping and really hit that late-night-greasy-food spot - a void which needed filling. The tab for the bangers and fries came to ten or eleven bucks, which more than made up for the aforementioned pricey brew and left me feeling satisfied. I would definitely be back for more.

Terrific experience at Barley Republic. Fare was delicious, including the slightly off-topic shroom burger. I went vegetarian when my dining colleagues went straight in for the house specialty fish n' chips. While my sammie was tasty, the fried fish, homemade chips, sour slaw and tartar sauce were out-of-this-world amazing. The chicken salad was pretty close to nirvana, too. I would (and will!) most definitely return for the final star. I was making eyes at the tea-stewed cranberry steamed pudding, but dining companions were having a gluten-free moment and itching to get on the road. See you next time, Barley Republic!

I go here all the time when I can. It's got a great atmosphere and its very relaxing. Their food here is to die for. Their Irish egg is inexpensive and I believe it's now world famous. Everything about this restaurant is to die for. Highly recommended for the locals in town and any visitors.

On vacation in St Augustine FL with my wife and a Maltese in tow, looking for a dog friendly bar/ restaurant with a patio. Stumbled on the Barley Republic by accident. Wonderful experience and a great server named Sarah. Never expected the craft beer selection and was pleasantly surprised. Great Irish Music and fabulous food. Met some nice people on the deck. Very friendly environment. A must stop off the beaten trail on Spanish Ave. Road construction going on out front but promises to be very aesthetic when complete. This place will not disappoint and far from a tourist trap

Great bar with patio. Food takes second place to a nice drink and some appetizers. We had mixed results on the food we ordered, but found the overall vibe, bar, patio and experience to be very good. NOT fine dining, just a nice little pub.

Good beer selection. Some of the best North Atlantic oysters I've had south of the Mason-Dixon. They also have gulf oysters that were delicious if that's your more your thing.

First review here, and this place is what made me go from a "casual Yelper" to writing reviews. The place is pretty basic-small, but great little pub. From other reviews, we tried the Tuscan Fries, and they are different and great! That's not all though...the reason for this review was the fish and chips. I opted for the "Fish Fry" which was basically the fish and chips plus a handful of massive sized fried shrimp. This was and is a reason to travel to the city and this restaurant. The fish and chips here is phenomenal. Breaded and fried to the perfect consistency and color, and the cod itself was great. I will be making a trip back soon.

4.5/5 Nice find. Food was good. Started with oysters and shrimp cocktail. Oysters were good although shrimp cocktail was little over cooked. Cocktail sauce was great, nice and spicy. Arugula salad was very good with the onion vinegarette. House made chips were amazing especially dipped in their tartar sauce which was more dill than pickle. Had Reuben, shepherds pie and fish and chips all of which got thumbs up. Irish coffee cheesecake was also good, especially the buttery graham cracker crust. Wide selection of beers, several on tap and many more in bottles. Service was decent. Eat on the patio if you can. Would go back again.

We visit St. Augustine at least once a year but have never tried the Barley. We had been planning on going to the Prince of Wales which is just down the street because I was craving some fish & chips. I think I'm always craving fish & chips. I must have been British/Irish in a previous life. There were two reasons why we changed our mind after reading their posted menu. 1) The menu stated that they used haddock for their fish & chips. 2) Truffle Ribbon Fries. 'Nuff said. We arrive around 4:30, just in time for Happy Hour. We had the entire place to ourselves. We chose a table out on the front deck. Our server appeared to be the only one working at the time, but a few other servers arrived shortly thereafter. The staff were all friendly and efficient. We started with the truffle fries and we also shared a bowl of potato soup. Both were very good, but the ribbon fies stole the show. I, of course, ordered the fish & chips. It was good, but it was not haddock. The chips and their tartar sauce were good as well. My husband enjoyed his bangers & mash. We had a coupon from one of the tourist magazines for a free bread pudding, so look for that. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. We will return but first I need to check out the competition down the street. For comparison sake, of course.

Nice place, but off the beaten path a bit, which could be a good thing. Small but with a lot of beers on tap. We just had a beer and some oysters, so not really sure how the food is. Service was excellent. We'd pop in again for a brew.

    (4)
  • Ros Rio R.

Service was on the slow side, bangers and mash were good, fish n' chips greasy. The truffle ribbon fries were tasty. I would try other pubs before my return here. Also, watching the bartender reach into the jar of cherries bare handed after shucking oysters was a real turn off.

Potato soup was very very good the ribbon fries are extraordinary but they're really chips not fries fish and chips were very good the Reuben sandwich is perhaps a little disappointing but all in all this is a wonderful relaxing place with an outside dining option

Fun outdoor eating in St. Augustine. We've been down to St. Augustine many times. We've tried many of the different restaurants but never tried the Barley. It's a bit off the regular path so we never think about it. On this occasion, we were walking around the town looking for a place to eat. Many of the places had waits so we continued to walk around. We finally stopped at the Barley and surprisingly all 3 of my kids liked the menu. Now it's been a while since I've been there so I don't recall what we all ate. But we all liked our food. They also have a good sized beer menu so we also got a few pints too. Being outside though, we were subjected to the smokers. Also, they do allow dogs to sit with you at the outside tables. Not necessarily a bad thing just something to be aware of. We will definitely be back.

My girlfriend and I are locals to Saint Augustine and are a 10 minute walk away from the restaurant. We enjoy the $5 burger night just as much as the next customer and have came here to eat numerous times. This time however I can honestly say was absolutely amazing just based off of the experience that we had upon walking into the door. We had two people helping us through our time there, a wonderful waiter named Chris and a waitress named, Kaitlyn. They were both superb and went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of and every other customer in the establishment was as well, even for such a busy night they're both calm and collective and were able to deliver exceptional customer service for every guest that walked through that door. This experience has just earned the restaurant huge bragging rights and word of mouth from me, as well as changing me from a every now and then customer to a frequent regular this place will be seeing a lot more of me!!!

I'm really sad to be giving such a rating to an Irish pub. I was really wanting to love this place. I love Irish food and going off the reviews, I thought it would be great. When we arrived, we were disappointed to find that they don't have a liquor license and couldn't get any Jameson. Oh well. To start with, I ordered the potato soup and my husband ordered the fried egg. Again, I hate to be so critical, but they were both very lackluster. Progresso soup tasted better and the egg was plain and hardly flavored. For my entree, I had the turkey pot pie. It was not very good and quite disappointing. Combined with lackluster service, I am not planning on returning to the Barley Republic if I'm back in St. Augustine.

The story all started when I agreed to ride along as long as we stopped in St. Augustine for lunch. I let the guys choose were we were to eat. Two out of the 3 were jonsing for Shepards pie, took a few looks online and saw how highly rated this place was. So there we go. We sit outside at a table. We have a DD and some of us were up to drinking. Server comes over and we notice there weren't as many drafts as we thought there were going to be. It's okay I order a dogfish head 90 minute in a bottle, DD orders a coke, and the other 2 order a pitcher of beer together. It took quite a bit of time to get our drinks. We order our food. and wait and wait and wait. I ordered the Irish Reuben, Two guys order the shepards pie, and 1 ordered the Bruschetta as an appetizer and a burger. He is highly allergic to dairy so no cheese on the bruschetta or the burger. But we asked for the cheese on a separate plate for everyone else. We were able to get a refill once while waiting. Finally the Bruschetta arrives. Server tells us the hold up was that they couldn't figure out how to melt the cheese on a separate plate. It was so hard from me to keep from laughing. Even though the menu item stated fresh mozzarella cheese, My guess is that they are using pre packaged pre-shredded cheese. Otherwise they could have just asked if we wanted it cut onto a plate. The Bruschetta was $8 dollars and there were about 3 tiny pieces. I could not understand the price. It wasn't enough to go around and because the guys were so hungry I opted out. The general consensus was that the Bruschetta itself was very good but the price point was way too high. We had to flagged down our server again who said it will be out soon. Finally the food comes. 1 Shepards pie, 1 Burger and 1 Irish Rueben. Buddy with the burger asked for mustard. We expected the one Shepards pie and the mustard to be arriving soon. Five minutes later my buddy is still sitting there with her hamburger open waiting for the mustard, and no sign of the second shepards pie. I say, if you see her flag her down because your burger is going to get cold, before you even get a chance to eat it, and we need to ask about the other shepards pie. Someone in the group sees her, tries to get her attention but she is talking to what looks to be a coworker and some friends. He finally gets her attention. She says oh let me go check, she quickly comes back only for a brief moment to tell us that they are busy refilling the mustard. She runs off again. By this time, I'm sharing my fries. We all note that we liked the fries. They were crispy on the outside with the tender potato inside. I start to eat my Irish rueben, thinking it can't be much longer for the other food and mustard to come. The Irish rueban is made with braised corned beef, green cabbage, Irish Swiss, grain mustard Aioli on Caraway Rye. The corned beef was good. I did not care for the green cabbage on it mainly because it wasn't chopped up enough. I take a bite and the whole cabbage piece comes out, there was also way too much cabbage and not enough corned beef. It was not bad. While I am eating the mustard comes in a small ramekin cup. LOL. I mean if they were filling the mustard couldn't they have done that first? But again server runs off before we can ask about the other shepards pie. Server comes back to ask how everything is. Our friend who is missing his food, inquires about his food. She goes to check. It was never made. She comes back and says she'll give it to him on the house if he wants it. He's hungry so he says okay. Of course by the time he even gets his food we are all done. Both guys felt the Shepards pie was not good. It was also very inconsistent. The first one got the hand cut lamb in it with addition of ground beef, the ground beef was not listed as an ingredient of the shepards pie on the menu. The second shepards pie only came with ground beef. Ground beef is not part of shepards pie. One noted they didn't get carrots in it but way too many onions and they both questions whether or not those were instant mash potatoes. The menu noted it was fresh but these are two guys that eat shepards pie a lot. So I wonder what the deal was. She my buddy how it was, and he said, "Do you really want my honest opinion?" She said, Yes. He told her the issues he had. And her response was. "Oh sorry you didn't like it, everyone else seems to." I was laughing my ass off in my head by this time. I'm sitting there finishing up my $7 dollar bottle of Dogfish head 90 minute IPA. I had about thre fourths left. I had just taken a sip and set it down. She came over and said, oh your finished with that, let me take that, and ran off. But, but, I still had some left! This is a cardinal sin in any establishment that calls themselves a pub. I really hope the new renovations also means training their staff better and fixing a few flaws in the food.

My wife and I have been here several times. We are from out of the area and make it a priority to stop here while in St. Augustine. The food is fantastic, the service is quick and attentive without being pushy, the beer selection is wide, and the bartenders are knowledgeable. We highly recommend both for food and drinks if you are in the area.

Had dinner there by myself last evening. It was a little later so more of a bar crowd and very lively. I went there off of yelp reviews, but found the prices to be too high for what they offered and the food was mediocre. My waiter was very nice, but it seemed that most of the loud obnoxious people were employees off the clock. Probably would not recommend.

We came in from Ft. Lauderdale and decided to have dinner there. The Vegetarian curry, bacon cheese burger, and the bread pudding were delicious! Highlands brewery beers were great, too. Staff was very friendly! Live band was great. Will definitely visit again.

On behalf of Irish people everywhere, I want to slap the people responsible for the Shepherd's Pie. Disgusting. So little meat I thought it was vegetarian. My companion said it tasted like they poured a can of beef stew, removed the beef, and then topped it with fake mashed potatoes. One of the worst restaurant meals I have ever had in my life. I can't fathom how it gets such high ratings, unless the owner has friends and employees post fake ratings to manipulate the scores. This place is clearly cutting costs and corners at every opportunity. Don't go.

We stopped in St. Augustine at what appeared to be the height of the season. We were heading home and looking for a day trip. We opted to walk around and take in the atmosphere knowing Barley Republic was an option from Yelp. The staff was very friendly and attentive. There was hardly anyone inside the restaurant. Most opted to sit outside and lîsten to the live music. I got beer battered bangers and Larry got a grilled corned beef and cabbage. Both were very good. Nice selection of beer and wine. No liquor. Relaxing place to hang.

Great little pub. Very small inside with a few seats for out side. Very friendly staff and the only domestic beer I seen on the list was Miller I think. No Bud or Coors lol however a very good list of crafts, imports and other domestic. Wife had the fish and chips and I had the shepherd's pie, both was very HOT!!! lol and very GOOD!!! :-) awesome little place!!!!

Friendly service! Open late at night and full of entertaining stories and ghost lore. The cuisine is unique too! The cole slaw is out of this world and the beer selection is something to be sampled!

The oysters were great can't beat for $1.50 a piece. The burger special on Tuesday is $5.00 but don't ask for it well done or you'll taste charcoal. Other than that service was great!

Service was very slow. Took forever to put our food order in. Once we got it it was great. Only place we could find raw oysters in the area! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, cool location - just come with some time on your hands.

We walked by this place and looked at the menu they had something called Tuscan truffle fries. We stopped in to have them and they were amazing!! We had a beer with that. They have a great selection of those. Service is very friendly and up beat. We sat outside and there is Irish music playing inside and out. Great atmosphere. Try the truffle ribbon fries- amazing!! We actually visited this place twice! We had dinner the night after we had the appetizers. Dinner was amazing. I had a turkey pot pie which was delicious and my husband had the Irish breakfast which he enjoyed.

Came here with some friends on a Friday night. Great service, enjoyed a seasonal beer on tap. Ordered the fish and chips, the tartar sauce is house made and might be the best thing I've ever tasted in my entire life! Fish and chips, Newcastle and Flogging Molly playing overhead? I'm in heaven!

Ribbon fries with a glass of Pinot Grigio! Casual atmosphere, friendly and timely service makes it an ideal place as a stop during a walkabout.

Small, friendly, great beer selection. And yes do the ribbon fries. The shepard's pie was amazing- would never have known it was lamb- but it was rich and delicious. They had a deep fried bread pudding- amazing.

Party of 7, Lisa was the only waitress. She was amazing. We had raw oysters, fish and chips, hamburgers, and BLAT sandwiches there was not a clean plate left. Very good experience, will be back for sure.

On vacation for the weekend, we came across this place and enjoyed it so much, we went 2 days in a row. First was just for appetizers in a big group. Everything was fantastic so we decided to go the next day for lunch as well. We weren't disappointed. They have a great beer selection, friendly service, outside seating, and delicious food! Great burgers, Shepard's pie, wings, fries, chips, tenders, etc...

My wife and I decided to go check this place out on the recommendation of a friend. We really liked the atmosphere and both enjoyed the food. In fact we enjoyed it so much that after having a few disappointing meals on our weekend trip we decided to finish off our weekend the same way we started it. So we went back to the Barley Republic. Thry had live music that was great. Loud enough to hear but not blasting you away. My wife and I could still have a conversation with each other. She had the fish and chips that night and they were by far the best we have ever had and we've eaten fish and chips in Dublin. Needless to say we have a favorite restaurant for whenever we visit Saint Augustine

Visited St. Augustine for my first time and decided to come here based on the high Yelp reviews. I should have trusted the warning sign that it was fairly empty. I started off with the Truffle Ribbon Fries, which had been highly recommended. I was not a huge fan. They were crispy with grated cheese, well presented but disappointing after reading the previous reviews. I had the Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato (BLAT). It was good, but the french fries it came with were so salty I only had three of them before needing to drink my entire glass of water. My dinner guest ordered the Baked Cod with lemon butter sauce. She enjoyed it, but parts of the cod were not very tender at all. The waitress we had seemed to keep forgetting about us, although in her defense we were seated outside. There was a live Irish band playing inside which was nice, but I wouldn't go back.

One of my new favorites in all of St Aug. Great selection of craft & import beers with fair prices. Generous happy hour offerings including fried sausage on a stick with gravy. Im going to say it one more time....fried sausage on a stick with gravyyyy. Other apps and beers are discounted too but seriously.......fried sausage on a stick with gravyyyyyy? Best wings in town and you can get them with multiple flavors. I know that every idiot that throws cheap adjunct beer down his/her gullet thinks they are a chicken wing expert but I am a master chicken wang connoisseur and these are great wings. Crispiest, most tender chicken appendages to ever pass under my stach. Yes, there is a scientific approach to frying chicken wings and BRPH. has perfected this sweet science and for this effort we are thankful. The Shepherds Pie is really good if you love NZ lamb as much as I do. Chunks and more chunks of gamey, grass fed lamb with enough veggies to keep your heart ticking then smothered in the blood of all good foods.....more gravy. Not huge fan of the mash but the town of Hastings has changed my view of potatoes forever. Potato capital of the USA ladies and gents, get familiar. Tuscan Ribbon Fries are the most expensive homemade potato chips you will ever eat and they are easily worth twice as much. So good! The only burger on the menu you need to order is the Cartwheel Ranch Burger. Local, organic, grass fed beef on ciabatta crowned with a fried egg. It's amazing as is but live a little and get it with a side of gravy. The Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich is something you don't want to miss if it's a special that day, I get it whenever available and hope it becomes a regular menu item. BRPH has their own parking despite being downtown St Aug and they have a beautiful patio that is dog friendly.

My boyfriend and I stopped here while bar hopping around St. Augustine. I did not try the food but the dishes I saw come out looked amazing! They have a great beer menu which I am always a fan of. A very nice atmosphere inside and outside and very clean. There was a musician playing classic Irish music which made the experience even better. I would definitely like to visit again and try the food!

I wish we had happened upon this place earlier in our trip. So tasty, so friendly, and a wide selection of beers is an understatement. The Tuscan Fries are parmesan/truffle oil fries that have been dusted with porcini mushroom powder... add in the Mama's Little Yellow Pilsner on tap, and that would have been good enough. But wait, there's more!? The shepherd's pie is made with lamb, and not ground lamb, but chunks roasted to fall apart goodness. The turkey potpie had me dreaming of turkey potpie that night, I am not kidding. Seriously friendly, and very tasty. Cost for fries, shepherd's pie, turkey potpie, 3 hard ciders, and 4 beers was $90 after tip. That's not bad for one street over from St George.

This is the best pub EVERRRRR!! I love this place!! We were visiting from California last October... It was a Monday night so not a lot of activity but once we walked in we were warmly greeted by one of the staff. I wish I had remembered her name.. she was genuinely nice. I asked if we could watch the baseball game.. Giants vs. Cardinals for determination of advancing to the World Series..and IMMEDIATELY she was more than happy to turn on BOTH TV monitors so all four of us can have a great view of the game. ... I was happy!! My iphone was low on battery but I noticed an outlet near the table across from us. I plugged in my battery and let it charge. Now.. the outlet was near the air conditioner so each time I went to check on my phone (receiving texts from Cali) the bartender started to wonder if I was comfortable or not with the air. She happily offered to turn it down for me. I reassured her that I was okay, that I was just charging my phone. We started with a pitcher of beer, my mom had pumpkin soup which I tasted and it was fabulous. It was perfect taste of pumpkin and some sweetness with it that tasted like having a pumpkin dessert. We had the Truffle Ribbon fries and those just as fab.... We all were having a great time watching the game and getting out 2nd or 3rd round of pitchers of beer, then our waitress surprised us with another pitcher on the house! Who does that???? Barley Republic did! I will always come and visit here when I'm in St. Augustine.

We had lunch on the patio where my little dog was welcome to hang out on the table, after being turned away from several other establishments. I had the fish and chips (best tarter sauce EVER!!!) and others in my party had the ruben. Everything was great, including the service. Great little place to cool off, have a bite and a great beer.

Outstanding Irish Pub! The service (Sam, Red) was outstanding in the intimate surroundings of the Barley Republic. Food portions were generous and authentic. Excellent selection of draft and bottled beers, along with live entertainment on the front porch. This is a can't miss choice for casual pub dining in St. Augustine.

Excellent, off the main street Irish Pub with great, friendly service. Love their outdoor dining area. Fish & Chip were outstanding as well as the Sheppard Pie with hearty chucks of lamb. Also liked the handmade slaw & tarter sauce. Only place we found that had really hoppy beer (Hop Stupid).

My husband, his uncle and I stopped in here during our stay in St. Augustine. Started out with three Guinnesses (which were half price - whoo hoo!). I ordered the shepherd's pie, which was fantastic. (No seriously, it was freakin' amazing.) My husband had the turkey pot pie, which he said was good, and our uncle ordered the fish and chips, which he liked (though he said the batter left something to be desired). For dessert we had the Car Bomb Cupcake and a slice of the chocolate stout cheesecake, which were both great. The atmosphere was enjoyable - we sat outside and listened to the Irish music that was played. The service was great as well - our food came promptly, and our server, Sam, was awesome. We felt a need to prank my husband's uncle, and enlisted Sam to help us with this - which she did, most excellently. I would definitely come back here again, and would recommend this place to anyone.

Friendly staff, including very involved owners. Visited a couple of times during my visit to St. Augustine, and had a great time. Love the selection of beers (draft and bottles). The food is good, frequent live Irish music, happy hour specials, and the space was recently remodeled and looks great. Finally, don't miss the free parking for customers.

went here on a sunday. They offer $2 absolutely delicious Bloody Mary's!! There are not a lot of seats but the service is friendly. We ordered the lamb burger and it was by far one of the best burgers i have had in a long time. Don't forget to order the ribbon fries. I don't know why more places don't offer it. So goooood! I highly recommend this place! YUM!
